About the artist
In the Spring of 2017, Tayler graduated from Fort Hays State University with a BFA in Graphic Design. He was originally born in Salina, KS and initially studied math and physics at Kansas State University in Manhattan. Fascinated by nearly every subject, he changed his major seven times before taking a hiatus from academia to discover his true passion.
Although he enjoys playing around with a plethora of traditional media, Tayler found that he is most passionate about creating digital illustrations and utilizing motion graphics to make things come to life. He has been teaching himself new techniques outside of the classroom, finding new ways to illustrate, animate type and even start character animations.
His creative approach—no matter the medium—is to find points of tension behind the idea he's been assigned or is interested in. Tayler does several iterations on each point and usually ends up refining the one he find most controversial.
Graphic artist by day... culinary artist by night.. graphic artist even later that night. To put himself through school, Tayler worked in restaurants and learned the art of balancing flavors. Who doesn't love learning their way around a new canvas? Even though he worked as a culinary artist most evenings after class, Tayler balanced his "day" job with personal creative work late into the night, which has garnered attention.
For him, controversy isn’t about instigation, but rather, a way to arrest your audience. It’s a way to plant a little bit of desire in their hearts; a yearning to turn the page and learn more about his idea. Ultimately, it’s about creating memorable images.
